The vast human, social and economic costs of the covid pandemic have highlighted longstanding and revealed new vulnerabilities of healthcare systems worldwide. Spending to deal with the public health emergency has put pressure on already stretched healthcare budgets. Evaluating healthcare outcomes and ensuring efficiency in the use of resources has become even more important as a result. Healthcare will likely focus more on disease prevention and healthier lifestyles than on curative care in the future. However, spending on hospital care still far outpaces that on primary healthcare. The pandemic has also revealed significant inequalities in access to healthcare and created substantial backlogs in treating medical cases considered less urgent – the adverse effects of this congestion are yet to be seen. To discuss these issues among international experts, the Institute of Public Finance organizes the conference Healthcare systems after the pandemic. The conference will feature keynotes and a panel of distinguished speakers on the effects of the pandemic and the way ahead for healthcare systems.

_______
