This course focuses on strengthening the economic capacity of a regional community to make optimal use of the existing and potential characteristics of the area. Participants will be provided with strategies, tools and approaches to improve conditions for job creation and economic growth.
We will discuss questions such as: How to develop and implement a vision for the area together with government, citizens, businesses and CSOs? How to secure local interests vis-a-vis central government, multinationals and foreign investors? How to support farmers and small businesses in creating job opportunities and improving food security? And how to deal with challenges and opportunities generated by extractive industries? As part of the course we visit and interact with projects supporting small entrepreneurs, agricultural programmes and initiatives to promote tourism.
