Abstract

The article points to the threats to the stability of public space from the mechanisms of the information bank. The word bubble indicates a tightly closed, hermetic area, but also something hard to see – it is a reference to the discretion of algorithms and the ignorance of users about their existence. Personalisation and filtering of information will have the greatest impact on the results obtained when searching for slightly more accurate information on topics that give a wide spectrum for subjective judgments, while when looking for basic information with relatively non-contentious characteristics, they should not be of much importance. Despite all the accusations that can be directed at the information bubble, it must undoubtedly be admitted that its operation is simply convenient. After all, everyone prefers to have contact with information that coincides with their interests. It is logical that we increase the flow of certain information, automatically – but is it conscious? – we give up on others. In the article, the author intends to demonstrate the threats resulting from the effects of the impact of the information bubble on the area of public space. The author shows the exposure of society to manipulative influence through the use of an information bubble that affects emotions, reasoning and human behavior, using the created image of reality. It should be emphasized that the information bubble, in order to achieve its goals, uses the imperfections of the human mind. The information bubble allows public opinion to be manipulated on an unprecedented scale. In a democratic state, citizens should be able to make informed decisions and independently assess whether the information they encounter in the media is true or false. The author will indicate how difficult this task is for a citizen and whether it can be required of a citizen at a time when we operate in a murky information environment. Based on the acquired observations and analysis of literature in this regard, the author would like to present in this article the complexity of the issue of the concept of information bubble, its influences and impacts on public space and the related threats.
