GETTING TO SLOVENIA and LOCAL TRAVEL in Ljubljana


By Plane: Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport is the international airport serving Ljubljana and the largest airport in Slovenia. It is located near Brnik, 24 km northwest of Ljubljana city. Other nearby airports are Klagenfurt 85 km, Trieste 130 km, Zagreb 140 km, Graz 187 km, Venice 230 km, Treviso 238 km from Ljubljana. Favourably priced scheduled transfers from these airports can be booked through the website at GoOpti. The company GoOpti operates daily transfers between Ljubljana and the airports in Venice, Treviso, Trieste, Bergamo, Graz, Zagreb and several other cities at very reasonable prices.


FROM LJUBLJANA AIRPORT TO LJUBLJANA CITY

 

Airport shuttle Markun:Airport shuttle is a very convenient way of getting from/to airport as it can drive you directly to any address in Ljubljana for fixed price 15 €/person (one person in the shuttle) or10 €/person (two or more persons in the shuttle) and to/from any given address in Ljubljana. The journey time is about 25 minutes and tickets are bought on the shuttle. Shuttles are parked directly in front of the terminal. You can book here.

 

Taxi:The taxi rank is right in front of the terminal. Taxis are available according to the actual arrivals of flights. A fare from the Airport to Ljubljana City costs app. 45-50 EUR.

By Train or Flixbus:

The railway station is close to the central bus station. They are both situated in the centre of Ljubljana.

It is quite simple to come to Slovenia by train from all of its neighbouring and many other countries. Slovenia is connected to Croatia, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Serbia, Czechia, Germany and Switzerland, and indirectly also to other European destinations. FROM LJUBLJANA CITY CENTRE TO THE FACULTY OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION

 

City Bus:Take the bus number 6 (direction Črnuče and exit at the Mercator building), 8 or 11 (direction Ježica) to Mercator stop.

Those wishing to travel on Ljubljana city buses, operated by the Ljubljanski potniški promet (LPP) public utility company, should purchase the Urbana public transport card. The Urbana card is available from LPP ticket offices, tourist information centres and most of the city's newspaper kiosks, news-stands and post offices.

The card is priced at 2.00 € and can store up to 50.00 € of credit to be spent on city bus fares. The Urbana card can be topped up with cash at all the above-mentioned sales outlets and the green Urbanomat ticket machines located across the city, mostly next to bus stops. The ticket machines accept both cash and credit and debit cards. Visitors to Ljubljana who purchase their Urbana card from a Tourist Information Centre and keep the receipt can return the card to the place of purchase when they no longer need it and claim a 2.00 € refund.

A single journey fare is 1.30 €. It covers an up to 90-minute journey regardless of the number of buses needed to be changed to reach the destination.

Taxi:Taxis in Ljubljana operate by meter with a starting fee. It is advisable to ask for the price estimation in advance. It is also advisable to call a taxi rather than hail it on the street. Among the advisable ones are:

BicikeLJ

The BicikeLJ bicycle-sharing system gives you an opportunity to hire bikes from self-service terminals located across the wider Ljubljana city centre. BicikeLJ bikes are particularly suitable for shorter, up to an hour-long rides as hire is free if you return a hired bicycle to the nearest docking station within an hour and wait for five minutes before hiring a new one.

The use of the BicikeLJ system is practically free of charge. The only cost involved is the symbolic fee for compulsory online registration with the system, which stands at €1.00 for a week and €3.00 for a year and must be completed in advance of hiring.
