 Title  Support for the Rule of Law (RoL) and its Consequences for Governmental Functioning

Abstract  
  		 The study presents findings of a three country (Hungary, Netherlands and Serbia) representative comparative questionnaire survey attempting to measure popular support for the RoL, including people’s self-reported readiness to follow legal norms, their trust in and acceptance of the legal system, the level of legal knowledge and that of legal alienation, etc. The paper sums up major statistical findings and attempts to identify hypothetical relationship between the findings (i.e. the ambiguous but rather weak support for the RoL in the CEE region, compared to a Western country), on one hand, and the effectiveness of government activities, especially regulatory activities (including application of laws, law enforcement), on the other.
