Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify one part of the Triple Helix model in Hungary, the Government’s role in the sustainable higher education. According to the mentioned model, nowadays the role of universities going through a big transformation, and they are changing in a more proactive way to follow the needs of the market and increase economic productivity. Under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by the United Nation, as well as the competitive, growth-driven goals of the states – together and sometimes contradicting each other – determine our action options in the future.
My hypothesis is the following: the universities in Hungary are far from the knowledge-based entrepreneurial ethos with collaboration, which ideal type is described by the Triple Helix model, and which could be sustainable in our changing World.
The basis of this Paper is to interpret the concept of sustainable universities, construe it in the Triple Helix model and try to find the main trends (or the lack of this trends) in Hungarian higher education. My goal with this research is to identify the problem, which is the first step to solve it, since it is essential to have sustainable and future-oriented universities for a well-working innovation system in any country.
