Abstract

While NGOs are supposed to have a greater role „in governance and in shaping and meeting the needs of citizens” one question arises: are they up to the job? In order to understand the role and the capacities of NGO in the area a closer look should be taken at the values shared by members of such organizations.
An analysis will be performed based on data from World Values Survey 6th wave (2010-2014) which covered 10 countries from the area: Armenia, Azerbaidjan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Poland, Romania, Russian Federation, Slovenia, Ukraine. The goals are:
• to find which are the civic attitudes and work values of people working in the sector;
• to assess the influence of national cultures on individual values;
• to explore the link between shared values and the strength of the civil society.
