RESEARCH

Public administration research is still not well developed in Romania. One can identify, on the basis of existing data, several fields of research:

The production of new materials is mainly focused on generating handbooks and manuals, publishing articles in journals and presenting papers at various professional and scientific meetings. There is little effort invested into “pure” research, and even then research programmes are primarily focused on specific local situations. There is no significant connection between the university and the public administration system in terms of sharing data and coordinating analysis.

There is a significant need to intensify research activities in the field of public administration in Romania. Several university centres are active in this respect (Cluj, Bucharest, Iasi, Sibiu, etc.), but there is still ample room for improvement. One more notable detail is that there are no major research institutes or organisations other than universities that have significant research interests or capabilities.
