In 2010, the European Commission launched a European Diversity Charter platform, with a precise scope, in order to support the development and exchange of good practices between the Diversity Charters Member States'. The platform allows signatories and representatives of the Diversity Charter to meet at regular intervals in order to share their experiences and develop common working tools.
Starting January 1, 2017, the National Agency of Civil Servants is one of the Romanian partners, together with the Association for Assistance and Programs for Sustainable Development - Agenda 21 and the Forum for International Communications Foundation within the I.D.E.A.S. - Inclusion. Diversity. Equality. Awareness. Success. (Launch of the Diversity Charter in Slovenia, Croatia and Romania), funded by the European Commission, DG Justice and Consumers and implemented by the Training and Employment Company for People with Disabilities in Slovenia, together with other private and public sector partners in Slovenia and Croatia.
The project is ongoing for two years and aims to promote and stimulate the implementation and respecting of the principle of non-discrimination and human rights, by creating and developing Diversity Charters in Slovenia, Romania and Croatia, for the private and public sector.
The Charter of Diversity is a document that establishes a series of measures that a public entity, a company, a non-governmental organization, an enterprise, etc. implement them in order to promote diversity, non-discrimination, inclusion and equal opportunities at the workplace. By signing the Charter, it voluntarily joins this set of measures, thus committing itself to the implementation of a coherent policy of promoting and managing diversity.
Through this project we also aim contributing to ensure a better level of information for direct beneficiaries as well as for the general public on the principles of non-discrimination, respect for human rights, equal opportunities, diversity management through specific activities: developing and delivering training programs, developing online tools, organizing informative events, exchanging best practices.
In order to achieve our goals, we benefit from the experience and expertise of a Council rounding experts in the field, academics, the public and private sector, non-governmental organizations and trade union structures. The Council has an advisory role throughout the project implementation period, being involved in the development and implementation of the Diversity Charter in Romania by providing feed-back on the Charter proposal and other support materials, attending working meetings and events.
The Charter is a collaborative debate platform on diversity management for the most diverse stakeholder groups, encouraging signatories to implement or extend their commitment beyond legal obligations, so that diversity becomes practical and becomes an integral part of the work and organizational culture.
