Abstract

Based on the research The Politics of Urban Policy in Georgia: New Challenges done in 2004 within a framework of the working group Mapping the Policy Process (LGI/OSI, 2004) and a Study of the origins of out-flows of native born urbanites to the peripheries of the Tbilisi metropolitan area at the beginning of the XXI century: Changing patterns of suburbanization (2007), and within the core interest of my PhD studies I plan to present a Country Report on the state of national urban policy in Georgia to the NISPA conference in Budva, 2008.
Report will include a brief review of the decentralization process in terms of distribution of responsibilities for development, an analytical review of current problems of local governance in the sphere of planning for economic and spatial development, examples of recent spatial development projects in major cities that caused contradictory discussions among different stakeholders, and results of public opinion poll done especially for this paper.
For publication purposes existence of research component and a scholarly style of the paper is ensured, while the policy orientation is author’s usual style.
