INSTITUTIONAL SETTING

This section provides an overview of individual universities and their faculties from the point of view of public administration education. The quantity of information on these institutions varies due to their fragmentation into categories and, exceptionally, because of problems related to the availability of information from some faculties. There are several institutions with various types of public administration programmes in the Czech Republic, making it difficult to organise them according to any one characteristic. This report utilises the categorisations of the Ministry of the Interior (part of the draft government decree on “Education in Public Administration”). According to the Ministry, there are five universities with master’s degree programmes in public administration as defined for the purposes of this study, and graduates receive the title of “inženýr” (Ing.) or “magister” (Mgr.). Six universities offer bachelor’s degree programmes in public administration, leading to the title of “bakalar,” and several other institutions teach programmes that include public administration issues.
