Main Public Administration Courses

Introduction to Public Administration

Teacher: Dr. Brezovšek
Lectures: 75 hrs
Practicum: 30 hrs

Public administration is one of the most important introductory theoretical courses and seeks to convey a common understanding of public administration, its development, traditions, structures, functions, and its actual social role in developed democratic states. Courses emphasise the relationships between government, politics, public policy, and public administration. Students also must learn the most important and influential theories on public administration in order to understand the importance of organisational and functional approaches to PA.

Administrative Law

Teacher: M. Strmecki
Lectures: 60 hrs
Practicum: 60 hrs

The aim of this course is to give students insight into a range of issues with which public administration is concerned when confronted by policy decisions that may be potentially constrained or affected by laws or other legal requirements. This course assumes that public administration and government exists to safeguard individual and collective rights, the legal interests of the governed and the public interest within the limits of the rule of law. The course also highlights the European Union dimension at particular points of the curriculum, when such an approach is perceived as necessary for a better understanding of complex issues that transcend the narrow limits of the lex nationalis of Slovenia.

Human Resources Management in Public Administration

Teacher: Dr. Brejc
Lectures: 45 hrs
Practicum: 45 hrs

Effective human resource management is vital for the success of any organisation. In this course students develop a greater understanding of the role human resources plays in public administration and increase their expertise in several personnel management skill areas including performance evaluations, career development and analytical skills relevant to the personnel field.

Informatics in Public Administration

Teachers: Dr. Bavec, I. Sirnik
Lectures: 45 hrs
Practicum: 45hrs

Information systems are playing an increasingly strategic role in the development and management of modern organisations. In order to be able to use modern information and communication technology to their full potential, the development of information systems should be regarded as a permanent activity aimed at increasing efficiency, productivity and the quality of services in public organisations. As future managers, students have to understand the role of information systems in contemporary organisations as well as basic methods and techniques of their planning and development.
