The Faculty of Arts, Comenius University in Bratislava and the Office of the Slovak Government´s Plenipotentiary for Civil Society Development in cooperation with other partner universities (i.e. University of Economics in Bratislava; Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica; University of SS. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava) will organize an international conference "Participatívne rozpočtovanie: užitočný nástroj alebo módny hit?" (Participatory Budgeting: A Useful Tool or Just a Fad?"). The event will be held in Bratislava, Slovakia on June 24-25, 2021, and it is financially supported by the Slovak Research and Development Agency (APVV) by means of grant no. APVV-19-0108 (https://www.researchgate.net/project/APVV-19-0108-Innovations-in-Local-Government-Budgeting-in-Slovakia). EURACTIV Slovensko is a media partner of this event. The conference will be held under the auspices of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Comenius University in Bratislava, and the Plenipotentiary of the Government of the Slovak Republic for the Development of Civil Society.

An expected program of the event consists of three parts. The members of the project research team and the representatives of the project partner universities will meet during its first part (internal project meeting) on 24 June 2021. The second part of the event ("20 Years of Participatory Budgeting in Europe") will be used for a series of presentations offering experience with introduction and use of participatory budgeting in various European countries. The mentioned presentations will be delivered by a group of invited international guests on 24 June 2021, too. The third part of the event ("10 rokov participatívneho rozpočtovania na Slovensku") will offer a room for interactive exchange of both knowledge and experience among Slovak scholars, policy makers, politicians, local activists, etc. on 25 June 2021. Within this context the organizers of the event want to contribute to ongoing academic discourse in the field of participatory budgeting as well as to further diffusion of this tool in Slovakia.

The conference will take place either in person, virtually or as a combination of these possibilities. The organizers are carefully monitoring the development of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although there are promising signs regarding the feasibility of the June conference in person, the organizers will formulate their final decision in the beginning of May 2021.
