The PhD Pre-conference Seminar: "How to Improve the Quality of your Research Paper?" in Ljubljana took place on 20th October 2021. The seminar had two Chairs, Michiel de Vries, from Radboud University Nijmegen in The Netherlands and Iwona Sobis from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. The aim was to discuss the papers the participants had written beforehand and to provide them with pragmatic ideas on how to improve their articles to meet the international standards required to have them published. The pre-conference had a hybrid character because five PhD-students participated physically in this event and nine PhD-students participated online. During the day, the Chairs proposed an interactive form of lecturing, focusing on the classical structure of successful research papers and stimulating the PhD-students to actively participate in a common discussion by sharing their own experiences, problems when writing the abstract, introduction, theoretical section, the methods, outcomes, and conclusions sections of the papers. The Chairs also created an opportunity to discuss the structure of the participants’ PhD-theses, and how the outcomes of empirical research presented in their papers for the Pre-conference could be reflected in the PhD theses. The pre-conference was well appreciated by all participants because of the open discussions, the constructive criticism regarding the content of papers combined with pragmatic solutions, pinpointing weaknesses of texts and finding strengths in them.
