Invitation to

NISPAcee PhD Pre-conference Seminar

"How to improve your research and paper"

Venue: Tbilisi, Georgia, Caucasus University

Term: May 20, 2015 from 8.15 – 17.45

Objective:

On May 20 2015, the day before the NISPAcee conference begins, a PhD seminar will take place in the same venue where the NISPAcee conference is being held, enabling PhD students to present a paper and have it discussed in more detail concerning the structure and content than sessions in the conference allow time for. Senior researchers will participate as facilitators for these discussions. The goal of the seminar is to discuss with the students ways in which to improve their presentations and their papers.

Participants:

This is an invitation for PhD students to apply for participation in this seminar. The only conditions are the following:

1. Be a PhD-student from the NISPAcee region.

2. Have a paper in the field of Public Administration which the participant is willing to present and discuss.

3. Willingness to participate in the entire seminar.

4.Willingness to take part in discussions on the papers.

5.Willingness to read at least one other paper.

6.Full paper has to be submitted by April 10, 2015.

Method:

During this seminar, PhD students will receive information regarding, and discuss how to improve the presentation of a paper and how to organise papers in such a way that they conform to the standards required to have them published. Hence, five sessions will be organised during which PhD students will learn how to improve upon their presentations and papers within a trusted environment. One of the sessions focuses on the structure of presentations; the second on the structure of the introduction and conclusion of the papers; the third on the theoretical section and finally the fourth, on the methods section and the last one in the section in which the outcomes are presented.

Chairs and Facilitators:

Prof. Dr Michiel S. de Vries, Institute for Management Research, Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands (m.devries@fm.ru.nl; http://www.ru.nl/publicadministration/koppeling/vries/)
