VII. Working Group on Public Policy Analysis Development Issues

WG Programme Coordinators:

Lesya Ilchenko-Syuyva, Economic Policy Department, National Academy of Public Administration, Office of the President of Ukraine

Due to the theme of the 2014 NISPAcee Annual Conference, the Working Group on Public Policy Analysis Development Issues would like to take the opportunity to focus on the importance of evidence-based policy making that links together the interests of the stakeholders as a basis of good governance. More specifically, we encourage authors to focus on:

-Evidence based policy analysis, development and implementation.

-Case studies of the application of techniques (e.g. stakeholder analysis, regulatory impact assessment, ex ante impact assessment, policy evaluation).

-Procedures of policy design and coordination.

-Paths forward and problems in public policy capacity building.

-Public administration in ensuring good governance.

In the past few years, more and more comparative papers have been presented and published, so the group collected a rich inventory of cases. As a next step, we invite academics and practitioners, applying with papers, to concentrate on case studies related to policy analysis and policy design and implementation in the above mentioned areas. The papers which are going to be presented within the Working Group should try to provide both a diagnosis and possible remedies for the shortcomings or bottlenecks.

The Working Group still remains a forum for academia and practitioners to exchange experience on how academics can meet the urgent needs of public servants in practice-oriented studies in preparing and promoting relevant policy advice, as well as in upgrading academic and training programmes in public policy analysis.
