The quality of PhD study is one of the core areas where the best universities invest because these investments directly influence the future of the whole research world. From this point of view, it is important for each PhD student to follow the current publication trends, respect research ethics, and be ready to compete as well as collaborate with others in relevant research field.

The 2025 PhD Pre-conference Seminar will consist of three sessions, namely:

  • Session 1: Structure and contents of good research papers.
  • Session 2: Presentations and discussions linked to the submitted papers/drafts/research plans of individual participants.
  • Session 3: Presentation techniques and the training of individual participants' presentation skills

During the first session of this seminar, PhD students will receive relevant information and advice from the chairs, and discuss the features of high-quality research papers. The second session will offer a generous room for each participant to present submitted paper, draft or research plan. In addition, all participants will receive feedback not only from the chairs but also from other participants of the seminar during this session. Since presentation skills are important for all successful researchers, the third session will be organised as a training session. More precisely, certain training activities for the participants of this seminar will follow a brief presentation of suitable presentation techniques during this session. We would like to encourage all PhD students who want to take part in this seminar to forward issues they would like to have discussed. Therefore, the chairs will facilitate a trusted environment, where the first-year PhD students as well as much more experienced PhD candidates will openly share knowledge, experience, train their skills, and where everyone will benefit.

The seminar will be organised in a way which allow the participants to understand that their involvement in research is about more than just collecting data, analysing, and writing everything important down. On contrary, they will understand that the choices made before writing itself could essentially determine the success of the final research output (e.g., article). Moreover, they will train their presentation skills because these skills will help them to sell their results within the academic competition in the future.

Selection conditions:

  • Having a paper in the field of Public Administration, the participant is willing to present and discuss a draft of a research plan for a dissertation Interest in participating in the entire seminar Interest in participating in discussions about the papers and research plans of others
  • All kinds of papers are accepted as long as they have an empirical component, be it a case study or a comparative study, irrespective of whether it is a draft or a final version
