Presenter Raluca IGRET Abstract Language is acknowledged for shaping our mental and social dimensions, the framework upon which realities are built, perceived and experienced. Language stands at the core of all policy discourses, agenda setting, ultimately at the core of all human activities in relation. Realizing a sustainable future springs at the level of speech and is shaped by the words commonly used to convey sustainability-related concepts. The challenge is to use language in a manner that can trigger a conscious understanding of the human–nature relationship into policy discourse. There is a language use in policy and public discourse that contributes to the view of being apart and above nature that further contributes to our behaviors toward life supporting systems. The paper sets the ground with a transdisciplianry theoretical framework at the crossroads of policy studies, communication sciences, psychology and linguistics. It further analyses different linguistic aspects of sustainability policy documents to promote the concept of Conscious Policy Language by looking for words that alter, inhibit or contradict our perceptions of sustainability policies, to make aware and shift to a conscious language use. �
