The last 30 years are marked by important transformations in the democratic development of Central and East European countries. Now it is the time for reflection of achievements and drawing perspectives for future development of public governance towards the next horizon, beyond 2020. It is rather challenging to track not only the continuity in governance, but also present critical (evidence-based) assessment of the process of reforms, of the accomplishments, declines and shocks. The acceleration of global development and complex problems demand a quest for flexible solutions in the field of: good governance, strategy-as-practice, policy design and policy transfer, monitoring and impact assessment, decentralization and local governance reform, innovations and knowledge economy, green economy and energy strategies, sustainable development and climate policies. The quantum leap ahead requires catching up with the good models and practices, harmonization of legislation and pursuing benchmarks, as well as a profound institutional reform and responsible governance, respecting next generations and the principles of democracy.
