The objectives of the summer school are fourfold: First, the program aims at acquainting students with basic qualitative and quantitative methods of conflict analysis including discourse and content analysis as well as interview techniques. Second, students will receive training in various approaches to conflict resolution and mediation. Third, students will be introduced to the contested issue of politics of memory with case studies from German history. Finally, students will apply the acquired skills in practice through the analysis of historical sites, buildings and/or movies and interviews with experts on issues of remembrance. The school aims at Master students or advanced students from all Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tadzhikistan. In addition, a small number of Master or doctoral students from Germany can also apply. Students from other countries are not eligible to apply.
