Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the situation of doctors or other medical specialists receiving sponsorships in different forms from drug companies or medical equipment companies.
The medical field, both in terms of pharmaceuticals and equipment, is constantly evolving, many companies in the private sector investing considerable amounts in the development of new treatments or modern medical equipment. All these steps cannot be performed without the help of medical specialists and especially without the help of physicians who work effectively and directly with patients.
It is normal for medical investors to invest in human resources correlated with the amounts invested in medicines or equipment because the training of doctors does not end with the graduation of the faculty but we have to deal with lifelong training. Thus, doctors' sponsorships for attending international conferences or seminars should be regarded as part of the medical act itself.
However, lately, these sponsorships have been interpreted, by criminal investigation bodies in anti-corruption structures, as in fact concealed forms of bribery offense.
