Abstract  
  		 In this paper, I would like to discuss some issues and challenges related to doctoral education in public administration. Enhancing the quality of the PhD programmes in the field of public administration is pivotal for the region of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) since they play a major role in preparing the new generation of academics and practitioners. In the part of the world where the shortfalls in administrative and analytical capacities of the governments are still pervasive, the provision of high quality doctoral education in public administration continues to be crucial.
