Presenter Agnes Horvath Abstract One of the main question of the transition is: what kind of possibilities gave the democratic challenge for the women, to join to the new system, and what kind of role women played in this processes. The political life in Hungary, same as in the Easter- European Countries, or don’t see a few countries, it is same in all countries in the world- is the territory of men. In the transition process, the barriers became looser, but on the other hand, the patriarchal attitude of the society strengthened. In 1990, the intensity of the election campaign was frightening for the 18-50 year olds entitled to voting. The “harsh” campaign has strengthened the patriarchal stereotypes, that this is not a woman’s profession. Although, there are numerous female fortunes, that can be applied nowadays also. The main focus of my study are the following: the determining political movements, the role of women who appeared in different political parties during the democratic transition. What was their motivation, how they managed to enter the new organizations, what kind of role did they receive within the party, and how did all these were presented for the publicity. I would like to present the impact of women on decision making processes as well as their presence during elections. It is very important to see, how the civil sector managed to help the involvement of women in the political life: what kind of background, and education did they receive. In the first election year there was a significant difference between national politics and the local civil activity. Key words: system change, women, politics, elections
